Civil Servants Rally to Support Hurricane Relief in Jamaica
Cayman Islands Government employees have raised CI$26,030 through the CIG Cares Outreach Programme to support Jamaican communities impacted by Hurricane Melissa.All contributions will be directed to the Government of Jamaica’s Relief Fund and the Red Cross to provide immediate assistance to affected families.
The CIG Cares Outreach Programme, established in July 2020, enables civil servants to support charitable causes through voluntary payroll deductions. The programme was activated again in response to the urgent humanitarian needs in Jamaica following the hurricane.
“Everyone will be aware that the elected government has pledged our support to the people of Jamaica after the devastation caused by this hurricane,” said Head of the Civil Service and Deputy Governor Honourable Franz Manderson, who announced the programme’s reactivation to staff a month ago. “To also do our part as a united Civil Service community, I am pleased to announce that we are reactivating the CIG Cares Support Programme.”
Chief Officer in the Portfolio of the Civil Service Gloria McFieldNixon has said that the contributions demonstrate the altruism of the civil service she noted, “The outpouring of generosity from our Civil Service exemplifies the spirit of solidarity that defines us. It reflects our deep commitment to standing with our Jamaican neighbours in their time of greatest need. When disaster strikes our region, we respond as family, because that is exactly who we are.”
In addition to the CIG Cares Programme, civil servants who are Jamaican have been provided the opportunity to apply for a salary advance to assist their families who have been affected by Hurricane Melissa.
