Data Protection

Access Personal Information

The Data Protection legislation provides you with a right to ask for a copy of personal data held about you, unless certain exemptions apply. This is known as 'subject access.' For more details about how we process your personal information, see our Privacy Notice.

The process below will advise you on how to access personal information held about
you such as:

  • Travel History,
  • Copies of documents that you provided to CBC for processing,
  • Correspondence relating to student and entry visas and,
  • Correspondence relating to dependents of Caymanians.

Complete a Document Requisition Form and pay the processing fee where applicable. You will be notified when the documents are ready for collection if electronic delivery is not available.

Subject Access

Should you want to obtain personal information that is not already made accessible using the Document Requisition Form, a Subject Access request may be made by emailing details of the information you want to obtain to FOI.CBC@gov.ky. To establish your identity, this request must be accompanied by copies of two suitable documents; one official government-issued ID bearing your picture, full name, and date of birth, and the other to contain your current address. We will acknowledge receiving your application and respond within 30 Calendar days.

When Might Your Information Not Be Disclosed?

In some circumstances, exemptions apply that prevent us from disclosing information to you. Examples of this are if the information would hinder the prevention and detection of crime or the apprehension and prosecution of offenders. We would also not disclose certain information in the interest of national security.

Who Do We Disclose Personal Data To?

When necessary or required for law enforcement purposes, we may share your personal information. Examples of some local entities we may share your information with are the courts and police service. We may also share your information with international agencies concerned with investigations and the safeguarding of national security. Where an international transfer of personal data is made, we ensure that the
receiving country has an adequate level of protection for the processing of personal data.

If you have any questions in relation to data protection you can contact our Data Protection Leader by email at:FOI.CBC@gov.ky
