Training
The Environmental Health Section of the Department of Environmental Health (DEH) has designed training courses to update participants about guidelines issued by the DEH for operating cosmetology-related establishments as well as food business operators
Cosmetology Hygiene & Safety
The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) offers a cosmetology training course for all hairdressers, barbers, tattoo and body piercing technicians, and other cosmetologists. This training applies to all new personnel working in the cosmetology industry and anyone whose certification has expired (Certification expires after 3 years of the last training date).
DEH has structured the workshop to educate operators on safe hygiene practices within the industry. Participants will focus on equipment sterilisation and disinfection; preventing the transmission of communicable diseases, and updating participants about updates to DEH guidelines for operating cosmetology-related establishments.
A registration cost of $15 per person covers all materials and fees should be paid at DEH headquarters, located at 580 North Sound Road, between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Food Hygiene & Safety
The Basic Food Handlers’ training is geared at equipping food-handling personnel throughout these islands with pertinent knowledge of handling, preparing, and delivering food safely, thereby preventing consumers from contracting food-borne illness and disease.
The training offered covers topics such as bacteriology, cleaning/sanitization, personal hygiene, temperature control, cross-contamination, food storage practices, food preparation, pest identification and control, food premise construction and design. It applies to new personnel working in the food industry and anyone wishing to continue as food handlers after the expiration of certificates issued by the DEH, which are valid for three years.
The DEH requires all personnel involved in the preparation of food for public consumption to be trained. Therefore, food business owners are encouraged to register their employees to attend one of these important workshops. Persons who are currently unemployed and who are desirous to be trained and certified in food hygiene and safety should also call to make arrangements to attend.
