Dogs & Cats

Please read the following information carefully within the below document, as the requirements may be different from those of other countries. Failure to meet these requirements exactly as outlined below will result in your dog or cat being refused entry into the Cayman Islands. Your local veterinarian will be able to help you with adhering to the requirements. Please provide a copy of the import conditions to the veterinarian who will be preparing your pet.

The Cayman Islands Department of Agriculture (DOA) Animal and Veterinary Service  regulates all importation of live pets under the Animals Law (2015 Revision). Importers must comply with DOAs’ import requirements and obtain approval before importing the pets from overseas.

Procedures & Requirements for Importing Dogs & Cats

All dogs and cats entering the Cayman Islands must have an import permit issued by the Cayman Islands Department of Agriculture (DOA). All dogs and cats entering the Cayman Islands must be accompanied by an Import Permit issued by the Cayman Islands Department of Agriculture. You must provide evidence that your dog or cat complies with all of our import requirements before we will issue an Import Permit. See DOA contact details below to obtain application forms. All correspondence and copies of the application documents should be written legibly in English, and can be submitted for consideration up to six months in advance of travel (see section B8 for further details). Submission options are listed below in order of preference:

  1. Copies, scanned and emailed as attachments to ci.agriculturevs@gov.ky
  2. Copies, delivered in person to the physical address listed below
  3. Copies, delivered via courier service (e.g. FedEx, DHL, etc.) to the physical address listed below
  4. Copies, mailed via the traditional mailing system (i.e. ‘snail mail’) to the post office box listed below

Import Requirements

In order to obtain an Import Permit to bring your dog or cat into the Cayman Islands, requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Completing an application form (up to six months prior to travel);
  • Having your pet fitted with a microchip which is ISO compliant and provide proof of the date of implant;
  • Being up-to-date on routine vaccinations and rabies vaccinations;
  • Having a rabies titre (blood) test performed;
  • Having tick and tapeworm treatments performed;
  • Gaining an Official Veterinary Health Certificate within 14 days of travel;
  • Submitting payment of CI$50 (US$61) to process your application.
